When we return to Hamburg, it always needs a few days to settle in again. However, for the next two months, there was hardly any time to rest.

My father was very ill, and we were busy with hospital visits and organizing a retirement home for him.

He only spent fifteen days in the retirement home in Heiligenhafen before falling asleep peacefully.

Our family had enough time to say goodbye to him one last time.

Saying goodbye forever is very difficult, and all that remains are memories. This is probably hardest for my mother, who now has to learn to live alone.

My father had a lovely burial at sea in Heiligenhafen, just as he had wished.

There were still many things to organize, such as my mother’s widow’s pension.

Two days before our return flight, unfortunately, my mother broke her thigh. Luckily, she didn’t need surgery because the bones weren’t dislocated.

However, this completely disrupted our plans for the upcoming Pacific cruise, so we decided to postpone it for a year.

First, though, we had to go back because two couples who were friends wanted to sail with us for three weeks between the San Blas Islands.

Also our passage through the Panama Canal was already planned and booked with an agent. With the current unrest in America and threats to the Panama Canal we decided to carry on
